Spring Fair 2012

Couple of weeks ago the brilliant spring fair took centre stage at the NEC in birmingham. I went along to the last day and found myself pleasantly suprised by the turn out, it was great to see smaller businesses and individuals with great ideas ready for the market. Favourite sections had to be toys and greeting cards...I'm a sucker for illustration and anything childish!
There were the obvious samey stands that deceive you with possibilities they have something interesting and new, only for you to get in a realise you could be stood in the homeware section of the Range.
But minus the few stores that had me believing I was in a garden centre there were many fresh faced independent stalls full to brim with concept, products and possibilities.
It's always good to get out from infront of my desk in the studio and see what's going on in the world but even more so when I get to see lovely things.

Beautifully Dark

I'm seriously loving Lana Del Rey's 'Born to Die,' I can't wait for the release of her new album...which I'm sure will not disappoint...Nancy Sinatra reincarnate.

The music video by Yoann Lemoine is beautifully bewitching with an underpinned dark atmosphere that has me hooked. Personally the song speaks of a love story doomed from the start. A progression of a young woman's life and her intensely dangerous relationship destined to fail no matter how much she tries, inevitably they go their separate ways but at her physical end she wonders if he will once again be hers in heaven?

New Year New Plan

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I've been very neglectful of my poor blog but my new job has kept me very busy...sorry
My new years plan is to be much better at blogging and document my happy web findings, inspiration and work more effectively...heres hoping I do a lot better then I have before.

Hope everyone has had a brilliant crimble and New Year... 2012 will be a good one I'm sure

There is life after uni!!

Hey, so firstly just want to say a BIG thank you to Kerry Louise Baldwin for her lovely blog mention and comment :D glad you like what you saw.
Secondly at the end of this month (July) I have been asked to exhibit at the New Brewery Arts in Cirencester alongside some brilliant artists and craft makers such as Donna Wilson, Jennifer collier and many more :D so I'm very excited about that and will keep you posted.
And last but not least I will be getting my website up and running soon, where my work can be viewed in its masses but also should hopefully get the shop up and running.
Feels good to know there's life after university!

Pilgrims choice awarded degree show display

sorry its been so long guys! i promise photos of the collection very soon, its currently showing in the Bath Spa university degree show so i've barely had time to breath recently let alone post a blog!, but promise new images and updates soon.

I won an award for my display in the degree show, Pilgrims choice selected me for their prize and award YAY...very happy especially as it was totally out of the blue :D

PROGRESS...finally!

soooo I have three weeks there abouts to get everything completed and the degree show up and ready for the general public...very excited but also very scary!!
so yeh to keep people involved as i'm rubbish and havent posted for ages this is an idea towards my final collection :D enjoy x

What day of the week is it?

Soooo days have begun merging into one...Im not sure even what month it is, It must be close to summer as the weather is beautiful (well it seems that way from what I have seen out of my studio window)
Haven't had much time to post anything or even show what I am working on but thought I'd pop a quick picture up just to show how my degree show collection is coming along.
I have so much to do and keep dreaming up new things I want to make but they will have to wait until this collection is finished, anyway hope people like what they see

Down the rabbit hole I go!!

Been such a manic couple of weeks, getting illustrations sorted ready for printing and embroidery, new ideas, new products, new designs...pictures will come soon :)
but i feel well and truly like I'm loosing my mind a little bit...so much to do and not enough hours in the day.
Wish i was Alice. Fall down a rabbit hole, have several confusing adventures then appear back out the rabbit hole having only lost an hour or so of real time...i need to fall down the rabbit hole and complete 4 days work in one please, either that or get a Bernards watch!!...that would be soooooo helpful right about now :D

Human Condition Exhibition, Bath

Photo's from recent exhibition, showing two pieces.
Legacy- quilt and cushion looks at mental illness and takes direct quotes from sufferers of mental illness and looks at the idea of what can be passed down, air looms such as quilts and genetics.
Secrets- after all my kindly shared secrets i took them and explored using embroidery the aspect of what we hide and what we show
It was a really successful private show, very pleased and had some brilliant feedback and interest :D

just thought id post and say that my exhibition opens on the 21st (next week) feb at milsom place in Bath, so hope to see people there :D the exhibition is entitled 'Human Condition'.... eeee very excited :D
also just beginning degree show work now so i'll keep you posted on how that turns out :P

Wooooooo!!

Feeling particularly happy today, yesterday some of my work was put on display in BathSpa university, the full piece is'nt even finished but it was great to see the work displayed, gave me lots of ideas for the full piece's overall presentation, also just secured an exhibition space for the end of February, so if any one is in Bath on the 21st head to Milsom Place for the opening night, you'll be able to see my work and also two other amazing artists (Florence Bowditch and Sarah Hunt) work. So now I have to crack on and get my underwear made and embroided! I'll keep you posted.

Ssshhh

So happy my dissertation is out of the way :D so now i can concentrate on the exciting stuff like my practical work.
Hoping to get an exhibition space for the end of February in Bath for a piece I'm working on currently, all about peoples secrets and the hidden and visible elements we each have, mainly themed around underwear.
I asked people to post anonymous secrets to me (if anyone who posted one is reading THANK YOU, i love every secret shared with me and i hope my work does justice to it's importance) so i could use them to inspire work, i also had endless bra's donated to work with soooo THANK YOU for them too anyone who kindly donated it to my good cause
